    Some search our fate and agree we survive,
    but to linger or go elsewhere?
    If we linger, for rest or vengeance?

    Death is the unclear conspiracy
    in others' hearts. To risk is to soar --
    higher, if it risks their anger.
    Not till Death's smoker do we shake hands
    again, trade cigars, talk about it.

    Death is the goal. Life was the detour
    that tricked us onto the gravel shoulder,
    wheels spinning and sinking
    as we try to get back.
